Should it stay or go

Disclaimer: These shots were all taken without any prep work. I wanted you to see the sideboard in its natural habitat.

We’re getting ready for a big yard sale this weekend. We’ve fallen into the pattern of having them twice a year in the spring and fall at my house. A lot of my family and a few friends always participate and we have lots of stuff.

And we have a lot of fun!

At first, I thought I’d sell this old sideboard. I think my dad pulled it out of a junk pile ages ago and I ended up with it.

I ended up with a lot of leftovers in my house. It’s a good thing I like leftovers.

I have a hard time parting with furniture. I always think I can use it somewhere or paint it or fix it up and make it work. And that’s what’s been going through my head everytime I consider selling this piece.

It’s not valuable. It’s not pretty, the mirror is propped up and it has this chunk missing on the side. But it’s functional. Worn out, distressed, doesn’t bother me. It fits in with our other stuff and adds character (or so I tell myself). It holds our board games in the bottom, the middle drawer is full of wrapping paper and the top two drawers hold excellent junk.

(The cups are all going in the sale, the chore charts are waiting on approval and payment. The bottle cap adds extra color.)

If I got rid of it, I’d have to replace it with something. That spot would need a piece of furniture.

Should I paint it? Get rid of it? Keep it as is? Help me out here.
