Feeling crafty

This time of year makes me want to make something. I’m not sure what it is. This year it was all triggered by Edie’s 12 days of handmade Christmas.

I knew I had to make one of her sweater stockings since the baby did not have one.

I made a little felt flower embellishment and the kids caught me at it. Then they wanted to try it. Now I don’t think we’ll ever be able to stop. They are quickly depleting my minimal felt supply. I have to find more felt and in more fun colors!

These are really easy for kids since anything goes. They just cut smaller and smaller circles and add cut outs or curves to vary the design. I showed them some simple embroidery stitches and now they can do it themselves.

And these birds. Just one more cute thing I found to do with felt. They will be adorable on the tree or add something extra to packages.

Now where can I find felt? Anyone?

    ANy suggestions for someone that is determined to learn to sew, and to teach my daughter, on a beginners machine? Singer? Brother? One with the basics. And one that is maybe easier to thread...bobbin and I do not get along! ;-)

    Does your Walmart have a craft section? Mine doesn't sell fabric, but they do have a row of crafts and they have felt for very inexpensive. I live in a big city, so I can also find it at Joanne Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, and Michaels. I don't know if you have any of those close by.


    Another really fun thing to make and embellish this time of year with felt are mini mitten ornaments. They are so easy to cut out and look cute strung together in pairs with pretty ribbon. Your girls might enjoy going to town on those!



    Your stocking inspires me. I have a December baby who turns TWO this year. This will be her THIRD Christmas and the child STILL doesn't have a stocking yet. Oh, the trials of being #4.............



    If only her lazy Mother could get hold of a sweater and craft something fabulous! :)
