I can't compare the two big name brands. I love my D300, but if it's too much camera for someone, I agree with the other Nikon owners...the D90 is fabulous for the money. I love it! My first digital camera was a Kodak Easyshare. It's a nice camera too and I've taken LOTS of pictures over the years with it. I wanted something a little smaller so I can tuck it in my pocket easily so I got a Canon PowerShot SD1100IS Digital Elph. This one DOES have video capabilities.
