I had a plan, a loose schedule and a stack of books ready for today. French toast was requested for breakfast.
I began with Milo. With the girls I used Phonics Pathways, but I could not stand to go through that book one more time. A friend let me borrow Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and it’s going well.
We began like today was a Monday. Mondays are history, science and reading days. It made for an easier beginning.
In The Mystery of History we learned about Japan and wrote Haikus.
Rain clouds bring water,
Blossoms burst forth with bright blooms,
Then whither away.
Milo wrote letters and numbers. He colored. He interrupted some. He whined a little.
It’s not perfect.
Tess interrupted a lot. It was a big change from full-time attention over the past couple of weeks to part-time attention. And her nap time was super short.
We did a typing lesson too. That’s one of my goals this year that they both learn touch typing. We’re using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. Emeline loved it.
There was even time for a little play.
It was a pretty successful 1st day back to school.
