Bird watching ~ goldfinches

birds 2

I almost titled this Bird watching {goldfinches} and that’s when I knew I’d been reading too many posts over at Ruthanne’s. I just love how she does that.

I could fill up my hard drive with these kinds of pictures, oh wait, I already did that. Just this weekend I spent hours deleting crappy photos and made a pact with myself to always go through the pictures when I dump my memory card and immediately delete. Doing it months later is such a drag. It makes me cuss and cry. Well, mostly cuss.

Birds are so entertaining. Ever since my mother got me a new bird feeder for my birthday, they have been swarming.

I counted 12 in this picture. There were dozens more on the ground. I filled that thistle feeder up last Thursday. I took this picture Sunday. 4 days and it’s almost gone.

I love catching them in flight.

I even like to watch them squabble over space or seeds. It’s so much better than watching my own kids squabble. Boy, have I had enough of THAT lately.

These photos were all taken through my dirty kitchen window with my friend’s 75-300 zoom lens.

Don’t you love them? I want to go take some more.

    Melissa,
Your link to Ruthanne's isn't working. Those are beautiful photos of birds, by the way. I've never had a bird feeder before. I might not get anything done if I got one!

WOW that is incredible~ I have a bird feeder outside my kitchen window & LOVE seeing the birds flock together.

I've discovered my favorite, but I need to research to identify it. :)

You only have to fill yours once a week? My folks have 4 similar feeders near their kitchen window that they have to fill DAILY. *4* of them! It's insane. Expensive too, because “their” birds don't like the cheap junk seed you can buy at the grocery store. Yes, seriously. They also put out piles of peanuts and sunflower seeds for the Blue Jays and one of the feeders is niger seed, and specific to finches since they like to be upside down whilst eating.

Don't even get me started on the bunny food they buy.

Gorgeous photos of the birds. Our bird feeder has been swarming with birds and I catch myself just sitting and watching them. Sure beats doing laundry. :)

Those are beautiful!! We love our feeder, too. Sometimes I just leave my camera on the tripod by the window so I can shoot them whenever they show up. The problem is that our feeder is under the patio canopy, so the lighting is not good. And they freak out and fly away when I come near the window. I don't have any shots that have turned out this nice. Maybe I should move my feeder.

And yes, I'd much rather watch squabbling birds than my squabbling boys! LOL!! :-)

Even through your “dirty kitchen window” you still take beautiful pics! Thanks for sharing!

Aren't they gorgeous? You''ll at least have plenty of entertainment (other than the kids) to keep you occupied from now on :-)

The finches are beautiful! We only get the yard full of blackbirds on occasion. Kinda freaky and very loud.

I LOVE birdwatching, and I'm coveting your new birdfeeder! Ironically enough, my favorite little tweeties outside my window are the Black-Capped Chickadees and the Eurasian Wring-Necked Doves… beauties, both of them!

Oh, I am so glad to have found another avid bird watcher! I am in BC Canada, and the american gold finches have just returned to my back yard feeder, last week. The males are still losing their winter feathers to reveal their bright canary yellow glow. I also get pine siskins, lots of house finches, juncos, chickadees, one lonely red winged blackbird, a red shafted flicker thru the winter, and the odd sparrow. Your pics are just awesome!!
    Nature at its finest :)
