Family photos

We haven’t had a family photo made since before Milo was born. We have our pictures taken all the time. I do one every year at Christmas, but we have not had one done that I’ve blown up and hung on the wall since 2001. I decided it was past time to take care of that.

I’ve been working with Emily on her photos. She wanted black and white enlargements for her wall with all the photos grouped together. I did this for her.

It helped her decide which shots she wanted and in what size. And it gave me an idea. I’ve decided to do a big family photo and then one of each of my kids. I started on the kids first. This is going to be a process, and it may have to be much cooler before I can get my husband into the picture.

In the meantime, I’m shooting one kid at a time.

She likes it better with her glasses on.

Not me. I like to see those beautiful eyes.

When was the last time you had family pictures made?

We just got pictures done last month; still waiting for the financial wherewithal to print them up. :)

Last September. My family never had family pictures taken, so I am determined to do them at least once a year with my husband and daughter. ; )

Did you see the post I wrote today about trying to get one on Father's Day? Check it out. You'll feel right at home.

Both pictures are adorable, but I think she looks more like “her” in her glasses. Know what I mean, jelly bean?

girl, can't even remember. i like the catch-light in her eyes in the first shot, but those glasses are darlin', too! the shots for emily are gorgeous! :)

Her eyes are gorgeous! But if she likes the glasses, then I'd go with that. It's her signature look right now and is perfect.

Last time we had a family picture taken was Spring 2008. I had a coupon for The Picture People at the mall. I was determined to get a family photo with all of us in it. After many poses and many minutes, we just couldn't seem to get it together and get a decent pic. The photographer suggested we just try to get the boys or me and the boys or David and the boys. I remember telling her “No, I came for the sole purpose of a family photo with all of us together!” I am SO glad we stuck it out!

Adorable! We don't have a family picture. We had one of all of us taken a couple of years ago that was our Christmas picture, and one before my youngest was born, in which I tortured my husband by making him go to the mall to have our photo done in a studio. Yuck.

i'm shocked! you should totally get emily to do it.

  • mamaduso

That is a great idea. I should. I was so bummed, the other night she was in my town, left a fb message, then a phone number, I called, her phone died so we didn't meet. So close!

Oh man, that stinks! Emily is such an amazing photographer. And she is super fun. Why do all of my favorite people live in Oregon and Arkansas?

We haven't taken a family picture since 2005, YIKES!!! Since that time we have grown as a family by 2 new daughters. For Father's Day I was able to have another spouse in our squadron take a photo of me and the girls. We had picure framed and sent it to my husband. I am determined though this year to have a family picture done of all of us. I think we are well over due.

Your daughter is beautiful in both pictures. I like the one with her glasses. It shows her style.

I love the idea of family photos, it's so very American, especially those Christmas ones which we sometimes get from family over in the US. We've never had anything like that in a frame never mind to be printed and sent to many people – I'm quite glad as looking back at photos of me over the years makes me cringe a little!

I like the idea of it though, maybe when I've got my own family I'll get some proper posed shots, it would be quite fun to look at them through the years.

    Have a lovely day,
    Jade

Our last was last summer. My oldest son was home and my MIL was visiting. I handed her my camera and her take a picture as we were heading out to church. It was on our Christmas cards and is now a framed canvas on our wall.

She is gorgeous, Melissa! The photos that you took of the couple are too. I *love* that one on the left!

It had been 6 years, until I was waiting for my specific cancer diagnosis, and was scheduled to begin treatment immediately. In the midst of everything else, getting our pictures taken was the last thing on the mind, except it was the first thing on my mind. I didn't know when I could expect my hair would fall out, I had no idea what my prognosis was (and at that point, it might have been something like “4 months to live”). I knew that if I didn't get a family portrait, I would regret it forever. So we drove up to the Picture People at 8pm and got some beautiful pictures done. Not beautiful and natural like you or Emily could have done for me, but everyone had beautiful smiles. A miracle! I consider it a gift from God!! And it was so funny to compare this one to the Picture People portrait from December of 2003!!! 6 years is too long!!

i'm so glad you got that done!
