My husband loves cereal. When we first got married I remember laughing at him because he would get the biggest Jethro bowl he could find and take the entire box of cereal and the carton of milk with him to the table. His idea of eating cereal involves a bottomless bowl. Instead of drinking the leftover milk like most normal cereal eaters, he would just keep adding cereal until all the milk was gone.

When I was growing up, I thought of cereal as my back up plan. I would sit for hours some nights at the bar in front of my supper plate waiting out my parents. I was always a picky eater and would rather go to bed hungry than eat most of the meals placed before me. Usually, though, I didn’t have to go to bed hungry because I knew cereal could be my bedtime snack. Fruit Loops were one of my favorites.
Now you can always find Rice Krispies and Corn Flakes in our pantry and sometimes a box of my kids’ current favorite like Frosted Flakes or Apple Jacks. My kids seldom choose cereal for breakfast, but I think it often becomes their back up plan just like it was for me years ago. Many nights you can find them reading the back of the box while they snack on their favorite cereal.
