Not back to school

miss spider

All the kids in our town went back to school today. Only Milo did school in our house though. We’ve been passing around a stomach bug and Clementine had it today. Clementine and Emeline share so many subjects that I called off lessons for both of them.

sick in bed

It was nice to focus on Milo only. It made me remember the days when I just had one to teach. Things were much easier. Of course, things are made much harder right now because of our busy, demanding, chattering toddler.

I spent the afternoon cleaning out the homeschool room. I started this on Monday. I think I could have had a real good cleaning week if I hadn’t gotten sick. Monday I scrubbed the grout in the kitchen tile and started on the homeschool room. Tuesday and Wednesday I felt bad. Today I cleaned out kitchen cabinets and homeschool cabinets. Just think what I could have gotten done if I’d been well the middle of the week too.

I’ve also been spending a lot of time planning what we’re going to read for history. I’ve been using All Through the Ages to find the books we need.

all through the ages

This is a great resource if you’re doing a Charlotte Mason style history. I bought it several years ago and put it aside when I was using The Mystery of History. I was excited to dig in again. This change in history has made it fun again.

Though, after a few months of planning and searching for books, I may give up and buy The Story of the World. New stuff is always fun in the beginning.

I hope your girls get to feeling better soon. I still love their bedding– so fresh and bright.

I have All Through the Ages too. I was planning on using it with Mystery of History, but now we are doing Sonlight and it is comprehensive enough as it is.

You are completely right- new stuff is always fun in the beginning. Now some of it is kind of nagging at me– Rosetta Stone, Latin, Critical Thinking…

Hope you're all feeling better soon. Our family has been passing around an upper respiratory virus for almost 1.5 weeks now, but hopefully we'll all be well enough to start school on Monday. We bought Story of the World this summer and are SO excited to dig in; it looks fantastic. My husband is the most eager of all. We are planning to have him read it with the children in the evenings, since he doesn't want to miss out. :-) I will do the related activities with them during the days… or such is the plan as of now, anyway! Best wishes!

O.k where did you get All Through the Ages? One of my good friends has had it on her wishlist for awhile and been looking for it at our local used homeschool bookstore but to no avail. I've never ever heard of it before she mentioned it. Now I want it too!! LOL!

We want to use Story of the World next year, or as an extra bonus this year, let me know how it is! This is our first year, so we bought all the Abeka curriculum! We start on Monday! I am so excited! My girls are 10 and 9. Tara

I'm interested in your thoughts on Mystery of History vs. Story of the World. I have been considering changing up what we are doing.
Would you share your insights on them?

mystery of history is more christian focused. all throughout the book it
points towards god's plan and how the gospel is spread. i've only read one
story of the world book so i can't really compare it to all of that series
    though.
