Summer fun

At the beginning of summer we like to make a list of all the fun things we have planned and all the things we want to do that summer. Swimming, naturally, is one of the things that always makes the top of the list. Some other things are: sleepovers with friends, vacations, catching lightening bugs, making mud pies, playing baseball in the front yard, finding cocoons and watching butterflies.

I could add a few things of my own to the list since summer is one of my favorite times of year. I love the long days of sunlight, the warm evenings, the smell of a freshly mowed lawn, beautiful blooms all over the yard, and kids that come inside smelling of sunscreen and chlorine.

This is the stuff summer memories are made of.

During this time, my kids need more snacks than usual. I enjoy using Rice Krispies and Corn Flakes cereals to make Peanut Butter Chewys, Rice Krispie Treats and, our family’s favorite, Chocolate Cereal Crunch. These are easy homemade snacks my kids can grab after swimming.

Summer is drawing to a close, for others sooner than for us. As homeschoolers, we’re able to soak up every last bit of summer and take advantage of a few quiet places after the rest of the kids go back to school.

There’s a splash pad in the city that we discovered last summer. If we go in late August we’ll have the whole thing to ourselves. That’s one thing we plan to do before summer is over.

One steamy summer evening last week we were sitting outside and I asked the kids, “Is there anything you wanted to do this summer that we didn’t do yet?”

“I wanted to have a fire and make s’mores,” said one of the girls. Since it the temperatures were running over 100 degrees each day, we decided that was one summer wish that could do well to wait until fall.

Have you made the most of your summer this year? What are some fun summer activities you’re planning with your kids as the summer comes to a close?

We made the most out of our summer this year by NOT overscheduling. When we are rushing about, nobody has fun anyway. I let the kids sleep in when they could, and it made for a pleasant, relaxing summer.

    Thanks for a great giveaway!

We've fit in some super special activities nicely spaced with time doing nothing in particular. Soon we'll be framing our swimming-pool-tanned faces with new hair cuts from a stylist. At home we'll have fun painting nails,as we finish out the summer.

Well, our summer's been a bit different. Hubby is building an addition on to our house for MIL to move in. Soo…we've had barely any family time this summer. However, our kids are still very young, so I don't think they miss 'activity.' To them, getting to play outside all day long is fun enough! Our most exciting activity this year that we were able to squeeze in was going to our local ice cream parlor and having ICE CREAM for dinner!

    Thanks for the chance!
