What book did we choose?

book pile

After reading Little House on the Prairie with the girls for their literature, I gave a lot of thought to what we would read next. I didn’t want something in the same time period. I hated to do something we’d already listened to on audio, I had read aloud or C had read. This eliminated quite a few good options.

I wanted a book that would interest both girls as well as myself. One that had timeless themes and interesting characters.

It was a hard decision.

Though I had a lot of good ones on my shelf, I actually ended up ordering one.

Actually two. One for each girl. The Four-Story Mistake by Elizabeth Enright. We had read Thimble Summer aloud last year and C and I both read The Saturdays. We loved those and I wanted us to read one more together. As usual, my ulterior motive is to spark an interest in this author or series and encourage them to read all her books.

So far, we are on chapter six and we are all enjoying it.

Always look forward to your book selections as I have three girls similar in ages, who all love to read. I'm scouring through the picture for other titles as well.

I have never heard of that author or that book. The title intrigues me though! Do you know if it is a girly book or would my boys enjoy it?

Just saw Indian in the Cupboard on top of that stack and had a flashback to my 6th grade teacher. She read us a chapter from the book every Friday. There were times when she'd be in tears and numerous times when she almost acted out the scenes with such excitement in her voice. She and the book both are locked away in my heart as beautiful memories! Hopefully, you all will get around to it, too!!!

i think i will read it aloud to them. i've been holding off on it because
they saw the movie to it first and it sort of ruined it for me.

Sounds like a wonderful book. I'm going to have to get a copy to read with Little Buddy. He's all about adventure!

Indian in the Cupboard is on our reading list this year. I can't wait!!!
