Our local fair is coming up and the kids have been busy working on their project submissions. Milo did this chicken painting today.
Emeline has been wanting to enter some of her sewing projects. She has a few cute doll/monster things she has made and I decided to give her a few basic lessons so she could do more sewing. Today we used this free simple skirt pattern and I guided her through making a skirt for her American Girl doll.
It actually was easy. So easy a 10 year old could do it.
After the skirt was finished Kit needed a shirt and a matching headband. The skirt was an old t-shirt sleeve, just cut and sewed at the shoulders. It is not fancy or neat, but it made me start thinking I need to learn to sew sleeves. More on that in a minute.
Because I hadn’t done enough that day what with the sewing lesson, regular school and painting, I decided to do a fun paper mache project. I KNOW. Somedays I just loose my mind and try to do it all.
We got the birds done and drying. It looks like this will be a 3 day project.
While Clementine worked on some drawings and Tess napped, I looked through my sewing supplies and found a pattern that included sleeves. It looked easy so decided to tackle it today. I mean, why not?
Hopefully I will be able to show you pictures of the finished project tomorrow. Though it tends to be my habit to start a sewing project, get stuck in one area, have problems with the machine then give up.
I have one sleeve left. Everything went very well until I got to the sleeves. I had to rip the first one out when I sewed it on wrong side out. By the time I got to the second one my machine thread started bunching up for no reason. My shoulders and back were aching, my house was a disaster, and I was starting to feel sorry for myself.
I’m determined to get that last sleeve in, but it will have to wait until tomorrow.
While I was sewing tonight, I googled “how to sew bias tape.” I had to use that around the collar of the dress. I often wonder what we ever did before google. You can find a tutorial or an answer to almost everything you want to know on the internet.
I asked on my facebook page what was the last thing you googled? I got a few laughs out of the answers. What was the last thing you googled?
