I could have been at Blissdom

Two years in a row I’ve forced Ruthanne to drive me to Nashville to the big meet up blog party called Blissdom. Last year I was sitting in the lobby on the floor taking about writing books with Emily and Shannon and I loved every minute of it. This year we couldn’t go. I was disappointed. It’s always so much fun hanging out with friends that you only ever get to talk to on your computer. It was kind of painful watching the twitter stream this weekend. It sounded like a fun trip.

On the other hand, I got to hang out with my cousin Emily and my aunt Sara while they helped me in my quest to paint my house. We did the dining room and kitchen a few weeks ago. This weekend we finished the living room. It’s all being done in white, in case you don’t remember, and I love it in the living room even more than in the kitchen.

Emily helped me rearrange my canvases and wall art. We aren’t finished, so all I have is this instagram photo to share right now.

fresh coat of paint.

Hopefully we will finish hanging things (including my giant S) before Friday because I am hosting our monthly Ladies’ meeting that night.

There’s a whole lot of cleaning to be done between now and then.

learning to tie shoes and sort of a hating each other right now.

I bought my son his first pair of tie shoes recently. He’s 7. I have a tendency to forget to teach my kids how to tie their shoes. I knew he would do well at it, (he’s got advanced motor skills) but it was still super frustrating. I can be very impatient with stuff like that.

I blogged about my goals for this year a few weeks ago. I am well into finishing goal #6, updating the 10 year old painting in the house, and this weekend husband and I began making real plans for goal #2, making the yard pretty. I can’t wait to get started on it and share pictures along the way!

As far as goal #7 (being a better friend even it if means saying yes to something on ice), Ruthanne called me on this one when she asked if I wanted to go to Relevant in October. It’s another blog conference, but it’s too far to drive to. We’ll have to fly! I’m trying to decide how flying compares with watching characters on ice. Both sound bad to me.

And I might as well mention #5. We chose 5 places we want to go on vacation and we have decided where we’re going this year. We decided to start easy and save Yellowstone for when the 3 year old is more like 5.

So where are you going this year then?  You could always fly to the west coast. We have lots to see!  I’d love to go to Relevant. Trying to decide if it will be worth the huge investment.

A good friend of mine was there this weekend too; It was enough motivation for me to start getting my blog back up and ready to go. For that, I thank her.

Also, you are not the only one who forgets to teach there kids how to tie shoes. My daughter just turned nine it was not more than a month ago that I realized she had never owned a pair of lace-up shoes! What kinda mother am I, right?  She had some problems at first, in part because she is ambidextrous and dysgraphic, but as soon as someone suggested tying two bunny ears together instead of the over-under-through route, she totally got it! There is hope.

    PS. The house looks lovely.

Where did you get your big S?  I am redoing my daughters’ room and want to put one up above each of their beds.  Thanks!

Ha! We join you in the ‘failure’ of teaching shoe-tying. We have (had0 a neighbor that taught both of out oldest to tie their shoes. She came to visit us last summer, when our 3rd was just turning 8, and taught him to tie his shoes in about 3 tries. We WILL be bringing her to visit when the younger two are ready!! :) And I think you’re ahead of the game as your son is only 5 or 6, right?

I think the bunny ears is what our neighbor taught our children. Mind you, the older two still could not teach the 3rd…..it just HAD to be our sweet friend, I guess. ;)
