This past weekend was the Pink Tomato Festival in Warren, Arkansas. We usually attend some part of it every year and this year we did something entirely different. We got up and got down there before 8 am to see my cousins come through the finish line in the 5 K run. This was the first year most of them had ever done it and it was exciting to be able to cheer them on. We barely made it there though. In spite of my best efforts at laying out clothes the night before, putting things in the car in advance and waking everyone up on time, one kid was slow to make it to the car. I got a little frustrated thinking we had gotten up early and now we weren’t even going to make it in time to see them cross the finish line.
But we did.
Barely.
The winner of the family, my cousin, Aaron, crossed the finish line maybe 3 minutes after we got there! After that the rest of them came through one at a time. This was Aaron’s first 5 k ever!
It did kind of, almost, a little bit make me wish I had been training long enough to run with them.
But then who would take the pictures? I should probably stick to that job.

The family track team.
After the 5 K we went to my aunt’s house for breakfast then walked down and found a good spot to watch the parade.
I’m not sure yet if this is a new tradition or not, but it sure was fun to change things up a little. Even if I did need a two hour nap when I got home!
