The reality behind these sweet, lovely scenes is that I was trying to paint today. We did school, we practiced music, we walked the dogs and then I broke out the chalkboard paint to paint a wall in our homeschool room and sent the kids outside.
But they kept coming back inside like boomerangs. “It’s so HOT!”
“I’m SO bored.”
“Why can’t we go swimming?”
“Can we have a friend over?”
After the 5th trip indoors I suggested they get some sheets and make a tent. They were excited about that and headed off to begin.
But then they needed stuff. Clothespins, a stool, rope. And I had to find the stuff for them.
And, “Couldn’t I just help them?”
Would they ever just play so I could finish?
And then the tent was finished. They called me outside to see their creation.
“You have to take a picture!” they begged.
And so they all climbed inside and bumped heads and yelled at each other and laid on each other’s hair and complained and some of them cried. And I yelled as I snapped pictures.
The dogs tried to get in too and they licked them and Hazel bit one of them in her excitement and very nearly pulled the tent down on top of them.
Would you know all that if you followed me on Instagram?
Or would you think we had the best life ever?
