I’m currently recovering from two birthday parties in quick succession. I hear a lot of parents wondering about how far to space their kids. Two years apart, three years, six years… which is best? I’d like to let them know that they should stop worrying about years apart and start worrying about the months apart. How close will their birthdays be? It matters. Two birthdays in the same month = financial and planning insanity. I made a big mistake when I had two of my kids just one week apart. Then I had the other two less than four weeks apart (years in between of course, but it’s the months that really count).
My son decided on a shark party. I pinned several shark cakes on Pinterest, but ended up going with my typical simple style. A cake mix cake topped with a plastic ornament. Last year it was race cars, this year a shark we already had. My daughter even made the cake and added the boy Polly Pocket for a bit of drama.
My daughters also painted these shark set ups for the pictures. Every kid got their picture made in the jaws of the shark!
Some adults did too.
This is how you’ll feel if you fail to take my advice and space your kids’ birthdays months apart.
