So last year was our first year to have chickens. We didn’t know much about what we were doing. Though my family had chickens as a kid, I didn’t pay much attention to more than getting the eggs from time to time and feeding them.
When we tried to raise chicks this past year our pen wasn’t secure enough, they got out and our dog killed them.
It was a sad day.
This year we are ready. We had a new cage built just for the mama and her chicks. We plan to do things smarter.
We like the black and white chickens best so those are the only eggs we will sit.
We just now started getting eggs again. We have seven hens and we get about 4 eggs a day. Some of the non producers will be eliminated after we raise chicks. Freeloaders.
We try to let them out to scratch about once a week. They love it and they are so fun to watch. Chickens are so quirky.
