Teach them to cook and they’ll never go hungry

play kitchen, kids, cooking, pretend

I taught my son how to make a grilled cheese sandwich on the stove today. Sometimes I think the greatest thing I’ve taught my kids is how to cook what they like to eat. Since I hate cooking, one day they’ll be able to do all the cooking and I can retire. I should also teach them to clean really well. It’s a good dream.

book stack, wicked, reading

I haven’t been reading much lately. I’ve been picking up A Circle of Quiet when I really want something to read, but reading aloud to my kids has taken up quite a bit of my personal reading time. So, when we went to the library I did grab two books I’d never heard of and I started reading Wicked while waiting at the doctor’s office one afternoon. I’ve had it for a while (borrowed from a friend) and never read it. How much of the musical is based on the book I wonder because the book is not PG.

two bags, purse

For my birthday I really wanted a new purse. I have the hardest time finding the perfect bag. It has to be open at the top, be able to stand up, be light inside so I can see things. Well I found two that I liked and ended up getting them both. I’m not a huge fan of pink, but I liked everything else about it and the leather one will be perfect always (except that it’s dark inside – can’t win them all).

hair color

I really wanted to try something new with my hair. I’ve been going darker and I wanted to warm it up, get away from the ashy tone that is my natural color. My hair dresser added browns and reds and I loved it. But no one noticed. No one at all! So I guess it wasn’t the big change I was hoping for. (By the way, those are not before and after pictures, they are both after).

I like your hair. I can tell the difference. :)

I did not enjoy Wicked at all and ended up putting down after a few chapters. I didn’t even get what was going on!

And you can’t show us those cute bags and not tell where you found them, so spill.
Your hair looks cute, by the way :)

I like big bags, too, though I often stick a little bag inside the big bag so I can just run inside Target without hauling the entire tote.

And keep up the cooking lessons. My kids are all pretty proud of themselves for knowing how to make a few things. Just tonight my 11yo son invited his grandma over for pancakes he’s planning to make in the morning. Perhaps your son will invite someone over soon for lunch: on the menu, of course, his famous grilled cheese sandwiches.

i have a ona camera insert that i put in my bags so i can add my camera if i need to, but i don’t have the perfect small bag to pull out for quick trips. need one of those.

The friend who made my tote created it around an insert, too. I don’t know her supplier, but it was someone on Etsy. Maybe it was ona? I love it.

THanks, they’re really cute. I find that a “splurge” on a bag is easy to do, they just seem so much more expensive than they used to be.

Wicked the book and Wicked the musical are only very vaguely connected. The musical is less racy, funnier, and I think, more clever. It is a lovely companion to people who grew up with Wizard of Oz with some really spectacular music. The book is dark and depressing and unfulfilling.
